16×48 Tatman
Overview
This boat is made of AB Marine Fir that has been stained. While 1/4in. marine fir is difficult to get in high quality we have some of the finest available in stock.
This is the original size made popular in the 1940's and proven over time. It's the most boat for your money and a piece of history. The sixteen footer will easily handle three people and is used throughout the Northwest by guides that are working "skinny" water where the rocks don't leave you much room to maneuver. 8.5ft oars are the right choice for this boat.

When a double length of 4x8 plywood was available from local mills this size became the most cost affective boat to build. It is the classic from the 1950's and is still one of the most popular boats on the water today. People and gear top out at 650lbs which is enough for all but the biggest people and the biggest trips
Build it in Douglas Fir to replicate history
This time tested size is a Greg Tatman design that has it's roots in Keith Steele and Willard Lucas boats of the 1970s. The asymmetrical shaped bottom puts more floor in front of the rower so passengers have room and stability while the size stays within the footprint of two sheets of 4x8 plywood.
